A Gallery of NALA's Work in Bench Maji
Marcus Perkins, a professional photographer known for his humanitarian focus, was contracted by Merck to photo document the activities of our joint project in Bench Maji. He spent two weeks traveling through the zone together with NALA staff members to visit sites and better understand the region and the people living there. His pictures include images of schools, a training for school teachers, laboratories testing for schistosomiasis, our experimental latrine site, and drug storage facilities. He also photographed markets and community life, coffee plantations, rivers where children swim, and Sunday prayers at local churches. A selection of pictures was displayed at an event held by Merck - adjacent to the World Health Assembly which is the decision-making body of the World Health Organization. This exhibit is also slated to be displayed at events worldwide as a way to showcase the Merck-NALA-FMoH project and heighten awareness about schistosomiasis and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Ethiopia.
